When it comes to precise sizing on a small area, a plansifter is used. It consists of several screens stacked on top of each other which oscillate freely while performing a horizontal circular movement. The product to be sorted is fed to the plansifter through the inlet funnel and the flexible inlet fabric tube, and it is discharged through various screens with different mesh widths.
The product is often screened by several screens within the plansifter, until the desired separation is reached. Several fractions with different grain sizes are produced. A lateral shift of the product on the screen in the plansifter ensures sorting and layering according to size and specific weight. These different fractions are collected separately from each other and discharged via corresponding channels in the plansifter through the outlets.
The separation efficiency of the sifter depends on the respective layer thickness of the product and the sifting time. The cleanliness of the screen is of utmost important as it increases the efficiency. Special screen cleaning devices such brushes, balls or knobbed screen cleaning devices ensure optimum cleaning of the screen.
